Se registró en Cuba un derrame de petróleo en el pozo Yumuri 201, en la costa norte, cercano a la ciudad de Matanzas, en la provincia homónima, por lo que las autoridades activaron el protocolo para estos casos, a fin de contener el crudo.
La subdelegada del Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología y Medio Ambiente, Nelvis Elaine Gómez Campo, informó que laboraron para contener el derrame y evitar que el crudo llegue al mar.
El protocolo incluyó la colocación de barreras frente a las rocas costeras donde tuvo lugar el escape y otras acciones por parte de Bomberos, la Empresa de Perforación y Reparación Capital de Pozos de Petróleo y Gas y otras fuerzas.
Horas más tarde se informó que el derrame fue finalmente contenido y que no hubo impactos en el mar.
El incidente se produjo cuando realizaban el mantenimiento a una de las bombas del pozo.
