El famoso astrofísico estadounidense Neil deGrasse Tyson ha reaccionado a un reciente tuit del director general de SpaceX, Elon Musk, sobre la colonización de Marte y ha advertido que sus sueños podrían enfrentarse a la dura realidad.

Después de que el multimillonario publicara un tuit en el que afirmaba que “la humanidad llegará a Marte en su vida”, dando a entender que esta generación verá el acontecimiento, Tyson se apresuró a recordar que los humanos ya alcanzaron el planeta rojo hace tiempo gracias a los róveres, y que la vida en Marte es bastante desagradable.
“Ya estamos en Marte con róveres. Muchas generaciones de róveres”, dijo el divulgador científico, añadiendo que estas tecnologías permitieron conocer el duro clima del planeta rojo. “La Antártida es más agradable y húmeda que cualquier lugar de Marte y nadie está haciendo cola para construir apartamentos en la Antártida”, señaló.
Tyson también afirma que está a favor del deseo de Musk de colonizar Marte, pero que no es tan fácil, ya que la terraformación del planeta a través de la instalación de tecnologías que puedan convertirlo en un lugar habitable, es decir, que el clima y las condiciones de vida sean confortables, no solo sería muy costosa, sino que requerirá mucho esfuerzo y años de trabajo. Añadió que actualmente la gente todavía no es capaz de controlar “las fuerzas de su planeta”, en referencia a desastres naturales como huracanes y terremotos, por lo que la idea de colonizar Marte “no está tan cerca en el tiempo como la gente imagina”.

I definitely agree I think we greatly underestimate the challenge and I think we need better technology and experience before attempting such a task. Personally I believe the moon is a much better option and we don’t even need people on it! I want it to be used for manufacturing and building ships and things for earth orbit not to mention producing machines to create bases and build infrastructure on mars before we even for getting our eggs out of just being in earths basket mars is quite unapealing living in earths orbit would protect us frok basically un calamity that would befall earth
The biggest evidence against martian colonisation is the fact that we still don’t have permanent human settlements in Antarctica. When we’ll start having cities in Antarctica and not just research stations then can we start talking about other places. And even then there is no practical need to go to Mars. We need significant advances in med tech to start with in order to handle the problems of Mars. Long story short sorry The Expanse ain’t gonna happen soon.

Having a habitat around earth makes more sense than colonizing mars.

Attempting to live on Mars is suicidal. I don’t think the reward justifies the risk.
