La preocupación por el rumbo que ha tomado la inseguridad animó al juez Craig Mitchell, con casi 20 años de servir en la Corte Superior de Los Ángeles, a competir para ser fiscal del condado. Es decir, a este juez no se le cae ningún anillo por servir en un cargo considerado menor por el bien de la comunidad.
“Lo que he visto como juez en los últimos tres años, al ver resoluciones completamente inapropiadas, me ha forzado a competir para la oficina de la Fiscalía”, dijo el juez Mitchell.
Señaló que hace tres semanas, le tocó el caso de un adulto mayor quien fue apuñalado 13 veces mientras esperaba el autobús.

“No hubo provocación para este crimen, no le dijo absolutamente nada al perpetrador. La víctima vino a verme para decirme, ‘juez, por qué le dan tan poco tiempo a esta persona que casi me mata’. Tuve que coincidir con él, porque el fiscal no le dio cargos por el agravante de usar un arma ni por intento de asesinato ni gran daño físico”.
Sin embargo, el juez dijo que le tuvo que decir a la víctima, que el problema no era con él sino con el fiscal.
Y mencionó también el caso de un hombre que estaba traficando con 20 kilos de metanfetaminas y solo le dieron tres días de cárcel. “Es obvio que considero eso como una locura”.
Comentó además el caso de un hombre con cuatro delitos serios violentos en un periodo de diez años, cada uno de los cuales involucró el uso de un arma de fuego, que llegó a su tribunal, con otro robo armado bajo sus hombros.
“Había planeado terminar mi carrera judicial y estaba empezando a ver folletos de viajes con mi esposa, pero al ser testigo de estas resoluciones, tuve que decirle a mi esposa, ‘querida, tenemos que poner esos planes en espera’ porque estoy muy preocupado por la seguridad y el bienestar de la gente del condado de Los Ángeles”.
El juez Mitchell dijo que hay muchas posibilidades de destituir a Gascón del cargo, ya que hay 13 candidatos que lo están desafiando.
“Por seguro en la elección de noviembre, vamos a tener un nuevo fiscal. Sí creo que Gascón puede ser derrotado”.

Añadió que se requiere una tremenda cantidad de trabajo duro y compromiso para cambiar las vidas.
“No creo que George Gascon tenga ninguna idea de lo que significa llevar a una persona de la adicción a la sobriedad a largo plazo”.
“El encarcelamiento masivo es una preocupación seria. En el pasado se impusieron sentencias meticulosamente largas que deben terminar. Cada vez que me acercaba a una sentencia de prisión larga, declaraba en audiencia pública que la pena por asesinato en primer grado es de sólo 25 años. Así que lo primero que haría es echar un vistazo a algunas de las sentencias astronómicamente largas que considero inapropiadas”.
Sin embargo, enfatizó que lo más importante es eliminar el encarcelamiento masivo, y para eso habría que crear un sistema penitenciario que realmente prepare a las personas para dejar una vida respetuosa de la ley cuando sean liberadas.
“Gran parte del encarcelamiento masivo involucra a personas que regresan a prisión. Tenemos una tasa de reincidencia del 78%. El modelo escandinavo de reforma penitenciaria que el gobernador Newsom está proponiendo para San Quentin reduce esa tasa de reincidencia. De modo que tenemos que brindarle a la gente, la educación, las habilidades y el asesoramiento con programas de tratamiento para que cuando salgan, no regresen. Así es como necesitamos reducir la población carcelaria”.
Enfatizó que no hay nada que inventar porque hay modelos alrededor del mundo que están funcionando.
“El gobernador Newsom sabe lo que tenemos que hacer. Estamos trabajando con un programa en Norco State Prison en asociación con Pitzer College que manda a estudiantes dos veces a la semana, y que al final del programa, los presos ganan un diploma universitario en artes de Pitzer. “Por mucho, no hay ningún otro candidato con mi experiencia. He servido al condado de Los Ángeles por 45 años. Fui maestro de secundaria en South Los Angeles, en East La, y en la Secundaria Wilson de El Sereno por 17 años”.
Pero además dijo que fue fiscal en la oficina del Fiscal del condado por 11 años. “He procesado más casos de asesinatos que ningún otro fiscal; y por 18 años he sido juez de la Corte Superior”.
Así que – dijo – que ningún otro candidato tiene su experiencia judicial, y puede reclamar que lo ha hecho por 13 años.

A tremendous number of people who are suffering from addiction, they’re estranged from their families, they’ve burned a lot of bridges. So now we have a community to whom that same person has to answer.

I wish every judge, DA or politician would be like Craig Mitchell.
A real role model.
What an example!
Mitchell doesn’t like how prosecutors are handling the cases and he wants to do something about it. Perfect.
He doesn’t like it, so he is taking action.
That is what we need.
LA needs people who loves the law. Mitchell is one of them.

He was appointed to the Superior Court of Los Angeles County by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
So, if something goes wrong, Arnold will be back LOL
In addition to his legal career, Judge Mitchell is known for his community involvement. He founded the Midnight Mission Running Club on Skid Row in 2001 to support those who have struggled with drug addiction and homelessness. This initiative was later expanded into the Skid Row Running Club. Furthermore, Judge Mitchell is currently running for the position of Los Angeles County District Attorney and in my humble opinion, he is the best choice. He has invited Angelenos to join him in an inspirational morning run as part of his campaign. These actions reflect his commitment to both his profession and his community, which many people admire.

He’s highly qualified, experienced, and cares about the real working class people. Exactly the kind of person who would never get elected in CA
This is the guy we need.
He has proven his only ambition is to serve the country.

George Gascon wants to ending cash bail for all misdemeanor and non-violent, non-serious felony crimes, reducing sentences for nonviolent offenses, and increasing police accountability . However, his policies have been met with criticism from some who argue that they undermine the rule of law and make Los Angeles less safe
Mitchell is committed to utilizing every resource available to stop these crime sprees that have plagued and terrorized members of the County of Los Angeles. Mitchell says, He decided to run against District Attorney Gascón because he cannot stand idly by and continue to watch the chaos unfold under current leadership. Enough is enough, and the people of Los Angeles should not have to continue living in fear.
Perfect person for the position.
He will turn things around. I have no doubt about it.
Personality and decency.

Yes, a DA needs a strong personality.

He is what LA needs.
This is like from riches to rag… remarkable citizen.
Mitchell is something different; he’s not like everyone else,
I agreed.
To take such step? No doubt about it.
I am living proof that rehabilitation programs inside prisons work. I consider myself fortunate to use my personal experiences to advocate for changing policies that can greatly improve the lives of people serving time. I believe that access to education is key to providing incarcerated individuals with dignity, and most importantly, also helping reduce the rates of recidivism. And, mostly, I know judge Mitchell will be the percet D.A.
Mitchell has been a Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge for 18 years, handling serious felony cases, and was a prosecutor before that.
The pendulum has swung too far to the left. We need a guy like Mtchell to fix things.
Los Angeles is in crisis. We have a homelessness, mental health, and crime crisis that cannot be solved with one-size-fits-all justice. We need a District Attorney with the experience and compassion to work with law enforcement, our Deputy District Attorneys, and criminal justice reform advocates to craft common sense policies that take a case-by-case approach.

Mitchell is committed to stopping the current crime wave in Los Angeles and protecting our citizens, and he has the experience to do so. Candidate Mitchell took a leave of absence from his 20 years on the bench in LA, during which he has never had a conviction overturned, to enter this pivotal race, where he has never had a conviction overturned. Serving his last years as Deputy District Attorney, Mitchell tried more murder cases than any other prosecutor in Los Angeles. I fully support this man.

I was present at a diner where judge Mitchell attended. I have never heard anywhere how a judge felt or feels after sentencing this has given me a whole new perspective I wish there could be more compassion and love from all sides I think it would benefit all involved in this type of position of sentencing. The district attorney’s approach to criminal justice reform is failing. We need to move forward in a new direction, one that prioritizes public safety and sustainable, responsible reform over self-promotion and stubbornness.
Mtchell’s commitment to justice for all warms my heart. What the current DA has done to parents and families of heinous crime is absolute absurdity. I pray our state and country turns around, and I believe someone like him will contribute to the necessary change.

this is a fine man I’d really vote with pleasure. there is no question to his integrity and motivation in this race. if there are any questions or reservations, sit down with him; you will know and understand his compassion, empathy, and love for the servant work and leadership he performs and his ideologies for the people he currently represents and will represent.
