En 1940, su orfanato fue trasladado al infame gueto de Varsovia.
A pesar del sufrimiento y la desesperanza que el gueto debía traer, los hijos de Korczak montaron obras de teatro y continuaron realizando actividades “normales”.
En agosto de 1942, Korczak demostró lo que realmente lo convertía en la persona más amable de la historia.
Las tropas de las SS detuvieron a doscientos niños y al personal del orfanato. Era obvio para todos que iban a morir.
Korczak, a pesar de que le habían ofrecido refugio en el “lado ario” de Varsovia, se negó. Fue con los niños, asegurándose de que cada uno tuviera su juguete o libro favorito en su mochila azul brillante. Iban vestidos con sus mejores galas.

Admirable. Janusz Korczak’s legacy lives on through his work, his commitment to children’s rights, and his brave sacrifice during one of the darkest periods in history.
Someone like him will be remembered as a hero and advocate for children’s rights worldwide. Contrary to many of those who write here, in this site, guilty of crimes that cast doubt on the very condition of humanity.

A genuine hero that should be an example for many , his touching story has moved me to research and learn about his kindhearted actions . we are imitators why not imitate this unimaginable kind hearted soul and not seek for our own credit or pleasures life has to offer but to give to the needy without expectations .

After World War II many Holocaust survivors came to Rochester, NY. When I was a kid one told me he personally saw Janusz Korzcak with his students right after the really ‘hard’ persecution of the Jewish People had begun.

Pamiętam, jak słyszałem tę historię o deportacyjnym pociągu bydlęcym, wiozącym Korzcaka i dzieci do Treblinki, zatrzymującym się na jednym z charakterystycznych „przystanków objazdowych”, a nazistowski strażnik zaczął rozmawiać z Januszem przez szparę w wagonie, zanim rozpoznał w nim autora swojej powieści. ulubiona książka dla dzieci. Nie pamiętam, czy strażnik dał mu ostatnią szansę na ucieczkę, czy nie (którą by odrzucił), ale jedyne, co pamiętam, to to, że zalałem się łzami, gdy usłyszałem tę historię po raz pierwszy. To po prostu oddaje, ile złamanego serca i bólu sprowadziło Ostateczne Rozwiązanie na tak wielu niegodnych ludzi, zwłaszcza dzieci.

Bardzo podobało mi się, że jego pragnienie pomocy dzieciom nie ustało, nawet gdy sytuacja stała się trudna. Zwłaszcza, że został uwolniony ze względu na swoją religię, ale nie chciał zostawić dzieci w spokoju. Naprawdę podziwiałam jego ambicję pomagania wszystkim dzieciom i nawet w trudnych chwilach radził sobie dobrze i nigdy nie zostawiał dzieci samych.
I feel blessed to have enough knowledge to recognize that this man’s acts were of a man of God and there is no doubt in my mind that him and his orphan children have the kingdom of the heavens won.
