Su tumba muestra la figura de este periodista que murió a los 22 años, asesinado a tiros el día antes de su boda por el sobrino nieto del emperador Napoleón Bonaparte y primo del gobernante de la época, Napoleón III.
En una espectacular y sumamente realista estatua de bronce del renombrado escultor francés Jules Dalou, Victor Noir aparece exactamente como fue abatido por el disparo del príncipe Pierre Bonaparte: con la boca ligeramente abierta, las manos inertes, la camisa desabrochada y el sombrero de copa tirado a su lado.
La estatua también muestra claramente una gran erección post mortem, un priapismo común en los cadáveres de hombres ahorcados.
Con el tiempo, aquel héroe, caído en el olvido, acabó siendo rescatado en el siglo XX por mujeres en busca de amor y fertilidad, quienes, al ver aquella protuberancia, lo tomaron como símbolo sexual, dejando de lado el anticuado símbolo nacionalista republicano.
