I visited the area no long ago… People can tell you stories of German soldiers talking pretty good English.

My uncle was killed in WW2 and one woman said he deserved to die because he was German. My uncle was 2nd generation American! Others said my grandmother did not deserve to display the Gold Star mother flag.

I used to live in that area. There was a theme park there.
Also there was a stage play and a radio version about the escape.

Wow! This is so amazing. I have not heard about this escape attempt. I look forward to researching it. I know that some German soldiers escaped from a Canadian prison. Reading this makes me want to check more and more and see just how many great escapes there were both successful and not so much. Thank you!
