As a black woman and a mother, I feel kind of sorry for this girl. At the end of the day, she’s only 16 and most of America is hating her right now. She wanted to just run away and found a really stupid way to do it. Teens can do very stupid things. Jussie Smollette was a full grown-a** man who wanted attention and more money, so I don’t like the comparison. This is a child whose objective was to stay in America and whose face is now plastered everywhere over a dumb mistake. Other teens have done a lot worse and the state makes sure to conceal their identity. When white girls are presumed to be kidnapped but it’s discovered that they lied and ran away, the cops simply put out a statement saying so-and-so was “found safe.” That’s what they should’ve done here because now this girl has no chance of living a regular life, continuing school or being hired anywhere based on something dumb she did as a minor. A child her age doesn’t think about how something like this could affect future victims. That’s not how some teens think.

As a black woman and a mother, I feel kind of sorry for this girl. At the end of the day, she’s only 16 and most of America is hating her right now. She wanted to just run away and found a really stupid way to do it. Teens can do very stupid things. Jussie Smollette was a full grown-a** man who wanted attention and more money, so I don’t like the comparison. This is a child whose objective was to stay in America and whose face is now plastered everywhere over a dumb mistake. Other teens have done a lot worse and the state makes sure to conceal their identity. When white girls are presumed to be kidnapped but it’s discovered that they lied and ran away, the cops simply put out a statement saying so-and-so was “found safe.” That’s what they should’ve done here because now this girl has no chance of living a regular life, continuing school or being hired anywhere based on something dumb she did as a minor. A child her age doesn’t think about how something like this could affect future victims. That’s not how some teens think.

I am a black woman and this crap needs to STOP. Fake incidents are on the rise and when something bad DOES happen no one is going to believe or even take the time, effort and resources to help. This is NOT amusing. This is a serious issue. There needs be jail time, community service and a public apology for crap like this. People were genuinely concern and praying for her safety. With the rise of black women actually going missing and being kidnapped this is an actual slap in the faces of the women who have never made it home. It is a slap to their loved ones. She did the right thing turning herself in and I am glad she was never in harms way but she and her accomplices need to pay! Edit: it is slap because her actions were disgraceful. She gets to come home. She will get to see her dysfunctional family/home, but some true victims will never get a chance to see their bosses they don’t care for or the one annoying offensive customer.
