Los Cabos, es un municipio situado en el extremo sur de la Península de Baja California, México, que se encuentra a 1500 kilómetros (930 millas) en línea recta de la frontera con Estados Unidos. Allí en marzo del año 2017, se reinició la segunda parte de la nostalgia y la leyenda Mustang Fastback 1968-McQueen-Bullit, con la aparición del otro bólido de acero empleado en la mítica película de 1968.
Este, luego de ser sometido a saltos acrobáticos había quedado maltrecho y descartado para su destrucción. Algo pasó, porque no llegó a la compactadora de vehículos y en su lugar cruzó la frontera, reapareciendo medio siglo después en Los Cabos, lo cual para muchos resultó increíble. Ya en color blanco crema y faltándole el motor, transmisión, puerta derecha, capot y piezas varias estaba depositado como chatarra en suelo mexicano junto a otro maltrecho Mustang. Allí casualmente llegó HUGO SANCHEZ, adquiriendo los 2 vehículos. Su fin era, con estos, reconstruir una réplica del modelo “Eleonor” Mustang de la película “Gone In 60 Seconds”, protagonizada por NICOLAS CAGE en el año 2000. Para ello los envió a RALPH GARCÍA, propietario de un taller de restauración en la fronteriza ciudad Mexicali. A la vista quedaron características especiales en el Mustang Fatback como refuerzos en el chasis y su chapa identificadora VIN tenía una “S”, que significaba haber poseído originalmente un motor V-8 de 390 pulgadas cúbicas.
Esos autos eran muy codiciables para cualquier proceso de conversión. SANCHEZ, contactó a KEVIN MARTI, reconocido y respetable licenciatario (contrato # 5012) de toda la base de datos de producción de Ford Motor Company entre los años 1967-2017. Titular de la firma Marti Auto Works (1) con asiento en El Mirage ciudad del condado de Maricopa, Arizona, Estados Unidos, este vio fotos varias del rodado en cuestión. Si bien la identificación concordaba con el segundo Mustang de la película, sabía que todo es posible de falsificar. Escéptico viajó a Mexicali donde en persona examinó pieza por pieza el auto cuya restauración estaba en marcha. Su diagnóstico fue terminante, efectivamente el segundo Mustang había reaparecido. Al día de hoy ,el mismo, posiblemente se encuentre en California, donde se proyectaba completar su restauración. De ser así, llegará el día en que su rugir incomparable nos hará saber que la nostalgia y la leyenda se han completado.

VIN (vehicle identification number) identifica y da características de cada vehículo, utilizado por la industria automotriz mundial. Anteriormente los diferentes fabricantes utilizaban distintos formatos.Año 2017, Kevin Marti, en Mexicali, peritando e identificando autopartes del Mustang GT Fastback 1968.

Otra pieza icónica de McQueen-Bullit, fue su chaqueta de tweed espigado marrón con coderas de ante. Utilizada en las escenas de persecución por las calles de San Francisco y en el enfrentamiento armado final en el aeropuerto, cuando con ella tapa el torso del delincuente abatido.
Esta prenda se hizo moda, fue exhibida en el Warner Brothers Studio Museum y salió a subasta pública en la firma “Profiles in History” en el año 2013, vendiéndose en la suma de 720.000 dólares. Su comprador no realizó el pago. Un año después logró venderse en otra subasta, pero ya por la suma de 120.000 dólares.
Para que fuera más fresca en la filmación se le había quitado el forro de satén gris oscuro que poseía. Fiel reflejo de una época en la que todo lo que tocaba o utilizaba Steve McQueen pasaba a valer como el oro. En ambas secuencias no hay diálogos, solo sonidos y el acompañamiento musical del reconocido argentino Lalo Schifrin que agrega suspenso a las mismas.

I’m from the Bay Area, grew up in the 60’s, & my dad used to see a lot of the tV & movie filming being done in the streets of SF. So do I think Bullit has the best car chase scenes ever????? HELL YEAH!!!!!!

I would MUCH rather have the car that was used in the chase scenes. The other car is just a vanity chassis. This one is the actual iconic car.
