Cuando las autoridades de la localidad de Sputnik anunciaron recientemente que ofrecerían la vacuna rusa Sputnik V en la clínica local, sólo 28 jubilados se apuntaron para recibir la dosis contra la covid-19.
El interés en el extranjero por la vacuna rusa se ha disparado desde que los datos publicados en la revista médica Lancet mostraron que tenía una eficacia del 90,6% contra el coronavirus.
Incentivo: Hay una en el exclusivo centro comercial GUM, a un corto paseo de la nevada Plaza Roja, donde los moscovitas pueden examinar la última moda en boutiques caras, antes de subir por la Sputnik V. Incluso obtienen helado gratis con cada vacuna: vainilla cubierta de chocolate.
Ese respaldo fue un éxito político, además de científico, para un proyecto de prestigio anunciado a bombo y platillo por Moscú y del que muchos dudaban abiertamente en Occidente.
Pero al mismo tiempo que países de América Latina y Europa están pidiendo lotes de Sputnik, el despliegue en la propia Rusia está siendo lento, ya que la gente se muestra muy reacia a ser inyectada.
La vacuna rusa Sputnik V ha sido la más veloz en su desarrollo, y tal vez por eso la más discutida. En agosto del pasado año, fue la primera vacuna autorizada para uso de emergencia en todo el planeta, a pesar de que para entonces sólo había sido probada en unas pocas decenas de personas.
Sus creadores dieron a conocer la publicación de sus resultados en un artículo de la revista médica ‘The Lancet’. La investigadora Inna Dolzhikova señaló en una videoconferencia que “no se hallaron eventos adversos graves en nuestra vacuna, la cual generó al 100% de los participantes en los ensayos clínicos –76 adultos— una respuesta inmunitaria estable”. Entre los efectos “tuvimos solo un dolor de cabeza, dolores de articulaciones, pero no fueron serios y no tuvimos un solo acontecimiento adverso severo”.
El Gobierno argentino acordó recibir en enero cinco millones de dosis de la vacuna Sputnik V, y para febrero esperaba otras 14,7 millones, de acuerdo al contrato firmado el pasado diciembre con el Fondo Ruso de Inversión Directa, que impulsa la vacuna.
A principios de febrero del corriente año, uno de los científicos clave detrás del desarrollo de la vacuna dijo que alrededor de 2,2 millones de personas, menos del 2% de la población rusa, habían recibido al menos la dosis inicial del régimen de dos inyecciones.
Lo cierto es que hasta hoy solo el 3,5 por ciento de la ciudadanía en Rusia ha recibido la primera dosis de la vacuna Sputnik V.
