El presidente de EE.UU., Donald Trump, planea anunciar, durante su viaje a Arabia Saudita la próxima semana, que su país llamará golfo Arábigo o golfo de Arabia al golfo Pérsico.
La agencia de noticias señala que los países árabes han presionado para que se cambie el nombre geográfico del golfo marino de poca profundidad situado entre Irán y la península arábiga, que es una extensión del océano Índico en la región de Oriente Medio.
El golfo Pérsico es ampliamente conocido con ese nombre desde el siglo XVI, aunque en muchos países de la zona predomina el uso de golfo de Arabia y golfo Arábigo.
Durante años, el Ejército estadounidense se ha referido unilateralmente a él como golfo Arábigo en declaraciones e imágenes que publica.
El Gobierno de Irán —antigua Persia— amenazó con demandar a Google en 2012 por la decisión de la empresa de no etiquetar la masa de agua en sus mapas. En Google Maps de EE.UU., aparece como golfo Pérsico (golfo Arábigo), mientras que Apple Maps lo denomina golfo Pérsico.

My main concern is how we will navigate the ongoing financial and political crisis, especially the power struggling in the United States. The government has created significant challenges for it’s citizens, and we can passively accept to the consequences of poor governance.
This gulf has been called the Persian Gulf for thousands of years, since the time of the Achaemenid Empire and even before. Trump or anyone else cannot change this name.
