The amount of energy it takes to extract the aluminum out of it is much greater than just using bauxite.

Anorthosite is not very common on earth. But if you look into the details, it has a consistent composition that creates a lower amount of mining waste and a lower cost to purify—to make fiberglass. Additionally, other secondary products come from it— like low-grade aluminum ore, calcium (for concrete), and some titanium. But the more economic products coming from the same rock makes it less expensive to refine these materials, makes more money for the owners, and creates less pollution for the amount mined. Yes, it is a promotional article, and the title is not very clear. One mine obviously won’t solve the climate crisis. Similarly, many of the comments in this thread also are not thoughtful, don’t relate useful information, and speculate on many things that don’t apply to this mine…. But the positive thing is that this mine will create less pollution compared to other mines. There is demand for these materials. So it will be mined from somewhere. If more can come from same rock, that is a better situation
