El monje Mihailo Tolotos ostenta un récord que muchos jamás podrán igualar: vivió toda su vida sin haber visto nunca en persona a una mujer.

Tolotos nació en 1856 y fue abandonado en las escaleras de un monasterio en la cima del Monte Athos, en Grecia, apenas cuatro horas después de su nacimiento. Fue adoptado por los monjes del monasterio y allí se crió y educó. El monasterio del Monte Athos no admite mujeres ni animales, mientras que los hombres que vienen a experimentar la vida monástica son tolerados.Religion

Mihailo Tolotos murió en 1938 a la edad de 82 años sin haber conocido jamás cómo era una mujer, salvo en ilustraciones, y sin haber tenido jamás ningún tipo de contacto con una. Incluso hoy, dentro del monasterio en el que vivió, solo se permite la entrada a hombres y a los monjes no se les permite afeitarse, lavarse, discutir, discutir o indagar sobre lo que hay más allá de sus muros.

Greek monasteries are all male or female only, with the exception of priests who can also visit the female only monasteries. This is to promote celibacy and to avoid the earthly vices. But Athos is so unique for being a collection of monasteries with people from many nationalities.
