¿Qué pasaría si Estados Unidos invadiera Canadá?

Share

both Canada and the USA would be incredibly hard to invade as both countries’ citizens have access to an incredible amount of individually owned firearms.

US gets most of their oil from Canada, and at a very low cost at that. Not go mention we can literally shut off power to the US . And with hydroelectricity Canafa is in a much better position.

U have to look up at past routes to invasions into Canada, going north is not simple as you make think it is. Just look at geography of the likely invasion routes are. You would have to go north to the great lakes and then use roads that cut through heavily forested areas. I mean just google it invasion routes would be very limited for an invasion force; this happened a lot with the Germans and allies in WW2 but it’s a lot harder in the American wilderness. There is a reason the US and British invasions failed in 1776 and 1812, limited roads, big hills and mountains and lots of damn trees. They Favour the defender; no tech can overcome this.

Most of your troops have never fought in the winter and it far different up here. Russian could do it as they are used to the terrain and weather. Why would you do this anyway if you have been to the Peace Arch and read what it say underneath. The US wear would oppose you on this. Most Northern states would as well. Go invade Jamaica.

We tried it twice and both times it had remarkably little support; I don’t think its going to happen, especially with Article 5; that would create a really interesting treaty situation.

There’s a chance the US could get kicked out of NATO and then not only would they have to deal with Canada and our allies, but Russia and China would definitely be starting to point some missiles.

NATO wouldn’t support the US as it would be in direct violation of it. Canada will have the backing of the Commonwealth and Commonwealth realm. There would be USA enemies that would also intervene as they know how much natural resource wealth Canada has and would do what they could to prevent the USA from gaining control. Also due to Canada’s proximity to the USA, the USA would have to be more cautious about what bombs or weaponry they use as they wouldn’t want to impact their people. The largest challenge for the USA would be the people, most countries citizens would fiercely defend themselves from an invasion. Side note Canada is by no means landlocked, it’s surrounded by 3 oceans.

Let’s not forget the Russians. That could be an issue. The Russians do not like the US in Alaska, so you think they will allow the US to take over Canada with an enormous northern border facing Russia. Also, with the NW Passage within Canadian waters, more countries would help Canada just to keep the NW Passage out of US control.

The best example of how Canada might defend itself is Afghanistan. A tiny country that has survived numerous invasions. Canadians have to turn it into asymmetrical warfare. And they have to be willing to keep it going even if it takes decades.

Militarily speaking the Canadian army could not hold the bulk of the U.S. army but the American troop would face a nationwide insurgency and popular revolt.

    • Maddy Marshall

The first line of defense for Canada would be the northern US states. These are dependent economies with deep historical ties among cross-border communities. They would instantly oppose that idea in DC.
NATO will come but so will the commonwealth and commonwealth realm. The world hates America more than they hate Canada. Superpower rivals like Russia or China would help in exchange for natural resources and access to the melting Northwest Passage.
Think of it like this – If the USA can turn on it’s biggest ally and friend, the world will never trust you. It wouldn’t be as lop-sided you think. War favours those with nukes. Of course the USA has a chance. But it wouldn’t be as easy as you laid out.

Trump is underestimating just how proud Canadians are of resisting any attempt by America to bully Canada (And they have tried many times). The last time a U.S. politician suggested invading Canada, there were widespread discussions about factory workers and power plant engineers planning to sabotage their workplaces rather than allow them to be occupied. America struggled to root out violent minorities in the Middle East. So imagine facing the majority of a country with 40 million people united against them. Other countries would likely arm us covertly. Maybe not the UK or other close American allies, but the U.S. has plenty of enemies with spare weapons and bombs who would jump at the chance to weaken America on its own soil. Canadians would retreat into the dense forests, rugged mountains, and unforgiving wilds of our country. These landscapes are far harder to navigate and control than the open deserts of the Middle East. The vast, heavily forested terrain offers countless hiding spots, making it nearly impossible to locate insurgents. And then there’s the border. Canada and the U.S. share one of the largest land borders in the world, stretching over 8,800 kilometers (5,500 miles). It’s almost impossible to secure effectively, and Canadians could cross it freely to launch attacks on U.S. soil. With no language barrier, intimate knowledge of American culture, and countless points of entry, insurgents could strike anywhere and vanish just as easily. Think about that for a moment. This wouldn’t be a fight on the other side of the world, where Americans can beat their chest, feel proud, and then go about their day. It would happen in your backyard at your workplaces, schools, and supermarkets. Even if your allies didn’t support us, invading Canada would cause every country in the world to distrust and despise America. After all, if you could betray your closest ally, why wouldn’t other nations assume they could be next? Could the U.S. defeat Canada? Probably. But no one would call the outcome a “win.” So, wouldn’t it be a hell of a lot better to just not be idiots and remain friends?
