Canadá impone aranceles de represalia a productos estadounidenses, según informó hoy martes el primer ministro Justin Trudeau.
Según explicó, el arancel del 25 % sobre productos estadounidenses por valor de 30.000 millones de dólares canadienses (20.000 millones de dólares estadounidenses) entrará en vigor inmediatamente, mientras que mercancías por otros 125.000 millones de dólares canadienses (86.000 millones de dólares estadounidenses) serán tasadas por el mismo gravamen en tres semanas.

“Estados Unidos lanzó una guerra comercial contra Canadá”, dijo Trudeau al comenzar su discurso. “Los canadienses somos razonables y educados, pero no nos echaremos atrás en una lucha, no cuando nuestro país y el bienestar de todos los que lo componen están en juego en estos momentos”, añadió.
El mandatario señaló que, aunque cree que Trump es un “tipo inteligente”, los aranceles son “una cosa muy estúpida”. “Lo que quiere es ver un colapso total de la economía canadiense, porque eso hará más fácil anexionarnos”, señaló Trudeau sobre la medida de Trump. También anunció que Ottawa ha presentado una demanda contra Washington ante la Organización Mundial del Comercio (OMC).
Trump anunció la entrada en vigor de aranceles del 25 % a mercancías procedentes de Canadá y México y del 10 % a los productos energéticos canadienses.
