El presidente de estados Unidos Donald John Trump dijo este lunes que podría eximir temporalmente a la industria automotriz de los aranceles sobre vehículos para dar más tiempo a las compañías a establecerse en Estados Unidos.
“Estoy considerando algo para ayudar a las compañías automotrices con esto”, afirmó Trump a los periodistas este lunes en el Despacho Oval. “Están cambiando a piezas fabricadas en Canadá, México y otros lugares, y necesitan algo de tiempo, porque las van a fabricar aquí”.
Debido a que las cadenas de suministro de los fabricantes de vehículos estadounidenses están estrechamente entrelazadas con otros países como Canadá, México y China, de donde obtienen sus piezas, es casi imposible fabricar un vehículo al completo en EE.UU.
El cambio de postura del presidente provocó pánico en los mercados financieros, además de preocupación en Wall Street sobre una posible recesión. Al anunciar los aranceles del 25 % a los vehículos extranjeros, Trump los describió como “permanentes”; sin embargo, ahora, su visión rígida sobre el comercio se ha tornado difusa en su intento de reducir las posibles repercusiones económicas y políticas de sus decisiones.
Este sábado, la Administración de Trump también excluyó a celulares, computadoras, procesadores, discos duros y chips de los aranceles recíprocos, el primer alivio desde que Washington implementó las tarifas a sus socios comerciales.
