Leer las legendarias memorias de Giacomo Casanova, un hombre tan famoso por sus proezas sexuales y su habilidad de seducción que su apellido sigue siendo hasta hoy sinónimo de playboy, es bastante fascinante. Lo que me sorprende es lo moderno que parece todo, dado que Casanova vivió desde 1725 hasta 1798.

En varios momentos de sus memorias, Casanova menciona un dispositivo llamado “el abrigo inglés”, un nuevo invento que le sorprendió bastante. Este abrigo inglés es, por supuesto, la jerga actual para referirse a un condón. Estaban hechos de la vejiga de ganado ovino. Una de las primeras recetas para hacer condones está escrita así:

“Tomar el ciego de la oveja; remojarlo primero en agua, darle la vuelta por ambos lados, luego repetir la operación en una ley (solución) débil de soda, que debe cambiarse cada cuatro o cinco horas, durante cinco o seis veces sucesivas. Luego retire la mucosa con la uña, azufre, lave con agua limpia y luego con agua y jabón, enjuague, infle y seque, luego córtela a la longitud requerida y pegue un trozo de cinta en el extremo abierto. para prevenir infecciones o embarazos.”

Había que hacer los condones personalmente y cortar el intestino de tal manera que tuviera “la longitud correcta”. Por lo tanto, cada condón fue hecho a medida. Era un proceso un poco costoso y que consumía mucho tiempo, por lo que normalmente se lavaban después de usarse y se guardaban durante algunas rondas más.

Así que en los viejos tiempos un caballero envolvía a su mejor amigo en tripas de animal. La producción barata de condones comenzó en 1844 con la vulcanización del caucho, luego se introdujo el látex en 1930. Pero sí, los condones existían ya en el siglo XVII.
