Cuando Faruk fue derrocado, subió personalmente al tejado del palacio presidencial y mató a cuatro atacantes con su rifle de caza, pues era un excelente tirador. Luego se exilió, dejando tras de sí, entre otras cosas, la mayor colección de material pornográfico del mundo conocido. Murió de un infarto masivo en 1965 en Roma, después de devorar una cantidad ingente de ostras para prepararse para una velada desenfrenada con unas actrices italianas.
