La Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas ha anunciado estándares de representación e inclusión para la elegibilidad de los Oscar en la categoría de Mejor Película, como parte de una iniciativa diseñada para fomentar la representación equitativa dentro y fuera de la pantalla, y así reflejar mejor la diversidad de la película.

Inspirándose en los estándares del British Film Institute utilizados para determinar la elegibilidad de ciertos fondos en el Reino Unido y la elegibilidad en algunas categorías BAFTA, los nuevos requisitos de Mejor Película de AMPAS serán monitoreados para los Oscar que se celebrarán en 2022 y 2023, será obligatorio hasta la 96a entrega de los Premios de la Academia en 2024.
En ese momento, una película deberá cumplir con dos de los cuatro estándares para ser considerada elegible para el galardón de Mejor Película.
Por ejemplo, para cumplir con el estándar más avanzado, REPRESENTACIÓN EN PANTALLA, TEMAS Y NARRATIVAS, una candidata a Mejor Película debe cumplir UNO de los siguientes criterios:
* Al menos uno de los actores principales o actores secundarios importantes pertenece a un grupo racial o étnico subrepresentado (asiático, hispano / latino, negro / afroamericano, indígena / nativo americano / nativo de Alaska, Medio Oriente / norteafricano, nativo de Hawai u otro Isleño del Pacífico, o cualquier otra raza o etnia subrepresentada).
* Al menos el 30 por ciento de todos los actores en roles secundarios y menores pertenecen al menos a dos de los siguientes grupos subrepresentados: mujeres; grupo racial o étnico; LGBTQ +; personas con discapacidades cognitivas o discapacidades físicas, o que sean sordas o con problemas de audición.

Honestly, who cares. I’ve always found the Oscars boring, and i never watch it. Companies will continue to pump out crap with the focus of making a dirty ton of money, ie. superhero films. Every once in a while you’ll get a gem but for the most part it will all just be noise. The golden age of films ended in the early 2ks. Then everything started franchising with sequels, prequels, and remakes.

Oscars has jumped the shark and will produce absolute crap trying to force an agenda rather than going with a Will Smith mindset. Movies should be made because its written well and cast because the actors are right for the part no matter their race. These rules are terrible and are going to be bad for hollywood.
