Según el Departamento de Justicia, Santos, elegido al Congreso en noviembre pasado y quien juró como Representante para el Tercer Distrito del Congreso de Nueva York el 7 de enero de 2023, participó en dos esquemas fraudulentos
Los fiscales federales de Long Island, en Nueva York, presentaron el martes nuevos cargos penales contra el representante republicano George Santos, acusándolo de robar identidades de personas y realizar cargos en las tarjetas de crédito de sus propios donantes sin su autorización, y de mentir a los funcionarios electorales federales.
Es decir, Santos, Representante de los Estados Unidos para el Tercer Distrito del Congreso de Nueva York , participó en dos esquemas fraudulentos, además de los múltiples esquemas fraudulentos.
De acuerdo al anuncio dado a conocer por el Departamento de Justicia de Estados Unidos, los investigadores acusaron al republicano de realizar múltiples cargos en las tarjetas de crédito de los donantes de campaña.
Se estima que, aproximadamente entre diciembre de 2021 y agosto de 2022, Santos ideó y ejecutó un esquema fraudulento para robar la identidad personal e información financiera de los contribuyentes a su campaña. Luego cargó repetidamente en las tarjetas de crédito de los contribuyentes, sin su autorización.
Debido a estas transacciones no autorizadas, se transfirieron fondos a la campaña de Santos, a las campañas de otros candidatos a cargos electos y a su propia cuenta bancaria. Para ocultar la verdadera fuente de estos fondos y eludir los límites de las contribuciones de campaña, Santos afirmó falsamente que algunas de las contribuciones de la campaña fueron realizadas por otras personas, como sus familiares o asociados, en lugar de los verdaderos titulares de las tarjetas.
Los cargos, que se basan en una acusación anterior, también lo acusaban de mentir a la Comisión Federal Electoral (FEC) y a los comités de supervisión de la Cámara de Representantes.
Santos presuntamente presentó informes fraudulentos de recaudación de fondos ante la FEC para obtener apoyo financiero para su campaña y cargó repetidamente sin autorización las tarjetas de crédito de los contribuyentes de la campaña, además, es señalado de hacer declaraciones materialmente falsas a la Cámara de Representantes de los Estados Unidos que fueron imputados en la acusación original.
Los cargos siguen a la acusación la semana pasada de la exjefa de finanzas de campaña de Santos, Nancy Marks.
Los fiscales dijeron que reclutaron a 10 miembros de la familia sin su conocimiento para que donaran a la campaña para que pareciera que Santos estaba recibiendo suficiente apoyo para calificar para los fondos del Partido Republicano.
Según los cargos, Santos dijo que había prestado a su campaña 500,000 dólares cuando, en realidad, sólo tenía 8,000 dólares reales.
De acuerdo a Breon Peace, Fiscal Federal para el Distrito Este de Nueva York, “Santos infló falsamente los ingresos reportados por la campaña con préstamos y contribuciones inexistentes que fueron inventados o robados… Esta Oficina perseguirá implacablemente cargos penales contra cualquiera que utilice el proceso electoral como una oportunidad para defraudar al público y a nuestras instituciones gubernamentales”, afirmó Peace”, insistió Peace.
“Santos supuestamente dirigió múltiples planes criminales fraudulentos adicionales, mintiendo al público estadounidense en el proceso. El FBI está comprometido a respetar las leyes de nuestro proceso electoral. Cualquiera que intente violar la ley como parte de una campaña política enfrentará un castigo en el sistema de justicia penal”, afirmó el subdirector a cargo del FBI, James Smith.

I realize people are people are we ALL make mistakes. That said, this guy deserves EVERYTHING he has coming to him, and then some. He lies with the ease that most people breathe. The lies just flow and flow. However, it’s that cocky smugness, that ha-ha, defiant attitude that just makes you want to hate him. I agree with @WayOf Ages, in that I don’t think the gravity or the severity of the situation has really hit him. All I can say is, I hope to God they allow cameras in the courtroom; I can’t wait to see his face when the GUILTY verdicts are read, aloud, one by one. This lady is in for a Hell of a rude awakening!
Let’s see… Something tells me George might actually like the idea of more prison time. He’s a scammer. A conviction is still a win in the sense he’ll get free room & board, free meals, free medical care, free gym membership, and best of all free daily showers with other men. It’s hard to punish someone who can turn his prison sentence into a personal vacation.
I hope as part of sentencing, they make George pay back all the money he scammed. Very unlikely, but that would be true justice

I wouldn’t be surprised if he claims his deceased mother died on the day he’s due in court just to gain sympathy. I mean, she’s already died on 3 separate occasions so why not? And I’m pretty sure Brazil did that plea deal w/him so that when he goes to prison here, it will be for way longer they sure as hell don’t want him back
this was not an uncommon move — borrow a baby on sentencing day hoping you wouldn’t get taken into custody. Never worked. Sometimes court staff held the kid till mom showed up — usually duped into free babysitting. Sometimes Mom was referred to the proper authorities. But this is a desperate misdemeanor amateur move. Not sure why he hasn’t been arrested and held yet, but his days are numbered, and he’s going down.

Makes sense that if the Reps are going to have a gay person in their conference that he at least have something in common with them – criminality. Otherwise they’d be disparaging him for just being who he is
