La moción para la destitución de Kevin McCarthy fue propuesta por uno de los miembros de su propio grupo político, el Partido Republicano, después de alegar que el responsable político había llegado a un “acuerdo secreto” sobre Ucrania con Joe Biden.
La Cámara de Representantes de EE.UU. ha destituido a su presidente, el republicano Kevin McCarthy, como resultado de una votación después de que uno de sus copartidarios presentara la noche de este lunes una moción con este objetivo. De este modo, el político se ha convertido en el primer presidente de la historia de la Cámara en ser destituido mediante una moción de este tipo.
La iniciativa de la destitución fue propuesta por el representante de Florida, Matt Gaetz, quien previamente acusó a McCarthy de haber llegado a un “acuerdo paralelo en secreto” sobre Ucrania con el presidente de EE.UU., Joe Biden. Tras presentar la moción, Gaetz declaró a los medios que tiene “suficientes republicanos para hacer que una de dos cosas ocurra la próxima semana: que Kevin McCarthy no sea presidente de la Cámara de Representantes, o que sea presidente de la Cámara de Representantes trabajando a voluntad de los demócratas”.
El propio McCarthy creyó que sobreviviría a las acciones de Gaetz para destituirlo.
Así, pocos minutos después de que se conociera la presentación de la moción, McCarthy reaccionó con ironía, publicando en la red social X: “¡Adelante!”.
Anteriormente, la Cámara de Representantes y el Senado de EE.UU. aprobaron un proyecto de ley de financiación del Gobierno para 45 días propuesto por el Partido Republicano.
El proyecto no contiene ninguna ayuda financiera a Ucrania, pero la Casa Blanca instó a McCarthy a presentar otro documento que proporcione los fondos.
