Let’s see. First at all this temporal appreciation is clearly because most importers have already brought in their containers for Christmas, weakening the demand for the dollar. Things are likely to get back to normal once the festive season is over they start to chase the dollar again for new imports.

Stop focusing on the SURFACE OR NORMINAL VALUE of a currency – it can be manipulated by a simple presidential call. Instead, look at REAL INFLATION and PURCHASING power. These are the true value of a currency which can cause a crash of the economy. Lastly, and very importantly, look at your USD reserve, because many countries base their currencies on the US dollars and it is used for importation. If USD earnings and reserve is too low, it will reduce the importation of essential items like petrol, drugs, foods etc which can cause price hikes, which can cause inflation, which can cause weak purchasing power, which can ultimately cause crash on SURFACE OR NOMINAL VALUE of a currency. The question is, what is the government doing to stop dependent on importation. Is the government going to join a currency exchange programme just like the BRICS to completely stop depending on the dollar?

One thing economists must know is that during this time of the year , the dollar always appreciates against the cedi because people import more stuff to sell thereby putting pressure on the cedi .Ghid happens almost every but seems Ghanaians have short memories at the formal president said . Economists and politicians needs to be more proactive to prepare against such occurrences because when things like transport fares rise, then never fall even if fuel prices drop

Just because the cedis got stronger doesn’t mean the price will come down. Everything will stay up because if you buy high and sell low you lossing profit.
