I think it’s time for us to devote our attention on our problems and needs and stop slamming others for not being more American exceptional when that exceptionalism is mostly lip service

As a Chinese who was brought up in the Netherlands, had the chance to reconnect with my motherland during the the pandemic, and saw a complete different China then what the western media has covered, I thank you for this piece of honest journalism

The same thing happened to Japan in the 70s. When Japan’s economic power was thought to threaten America’s hegemony, there was a wave of anti-Japanese propaganda in the US. There were actually hate crime and murders of Asians in US because of it (just like the current Asian hate crime wave).
Keep in mind Japan was a “free and democratic” country in the 70s. Its only “fault” was that, during the height of its bubble, it was becoming too economically successful, and that threatened America.
Yes, without China, long term India would pose the greatest threat to US hegemony.
I imagine instead of “Uyghur Genocide”, everybody would be talking about “Kashmir Genocide” right now, lol (even though in BOTH cases, there is absolutely 0 evidence that genocides are actually happening – draconian controls and personal freedom violations, yes in both cases. But neither even come close to “genocide” like the Native American Genocide, African American Genocide #BLM, or the Asian American Genocide #StopAsianHate)
Short term though, I think Russia would still be the #1 target for a long time if China doesn’t exist. Russia already is the public enemy #2 right now.
