El presidente brasileño, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, se sometió hoy lunes a una primera sesión de radioterapia preventiva en el Hospital Sirio-Libanés de Brasilia, la capital brasileña, lo que dio inicio a un tratamiento de 15 sesiones a lo largo de tres semanas, informó la institución médica.

Hace un mes, el mandatario brasileño se sometió a un procedimiento para extirpar una lesión de piel en la cabeza, que fue identificada como un carcinoma basocelular, considerado el tipo más común de cáncer de piel.

De acuerdo con el boletín médico, tras la extirpación en el cuero cabelludo, el equipo médico optó por un “tratamiento complementario con radioterapia superficial preventiva”. El presidente “continuará con sus actividades diarias sin restricciones, manteniéndose bajo el seguimiento de los equipos médicos”.

Según los especialistas, ese tipo de lesión está relacionado con la exposición crónica al sol y no presenta mayores implicaciones para la salud del paciente.

Los médicos recomiendan medidas preventivas como el uso de sombrero y filtro solar para que el mandatario se proteja de la exposición continua del sol.
