Argentina dio ayer miércoles un nuevo paso en su alianza militar con EE.UU. En Washington, el ministro de Defensa, Luis Petri, suscribió con el secretario de Defensa norteamericano, Pete Hegseth, una carta de aceptación para adquirir e incorporar vehículos blindados Stryker al Ejército nacional.

Petri afirmó que “la Argentina avanza en la modernización de sus Fuerzas Armadas y fortalece sus vínculos militares con EE.UU.”, y remarcó que, con el impulso del presidente Javier Milei, se están recuperando “capacidades estratégicas para defender la soberanía y garantizar la paz de todos los argentinos”. 

“Estamos recuperando capacidades militares, modernizando nuestras Fuerzas Armadas y fortaleciendo la alianza estratégica con Estados Unidos, nuestro socio en la defensa de la libertad y los valores democráticos”, dijo Petri en un mensaje por la red social X.

Hegseth, por su parte, se refirió a China y la calificó como “una amenaza para EE.UU., la Argentina y la región”, y subrayó que “la paz regional exige la máxima voluntad y tenacidad”, reseña un comunicado del Departamento de Defensa estadounidense. 

Según el Gobierno argentino, la reunión consolida “una alianza estratégica entre dos gobiernos que entienden la defensa como condición necesaria para la paz, la libertad y la soberanía”. 

El pacto también contempla una expansión de la cooperación en áreas como ciberdefensa, frontera terrestre, interoperabilidad militar y equipamiento estratégico, inspirada en el modelo estadounidense conocido como ‘Garden Support’. 

El acuerdo se enmarca en una nueva etapa de cooperación militar bilateral, que se suma a la compra de 24 aviones F-16 a Dinamarca, con financiamiento de Washington, y a la construcción de una base naval conjunta cercana a la Antártida.
