Las operaciones del Regimiento del Servicio Aéreo Especial de Australia (SAS) desde Vietnam hasta Afganistán hablan por sí solas. Aussie military is great and always has been! You get short shrift in the international media, but I’d sure rather have our boys fighting alongside Aussies than, say, the French or UN troops. Courageous and tough.
They were feared in Vietnam with the Vietnamese putting a $2000 USD bounty on an SASR’s (including NZSAS) head. They also had just under a 600:1 K/D ratio. Known to the Viet Cong as “Phantoms of the Jungle” I recommend reading, Vietnam The Australian War by Paul Ham. And Warrior Brothers and The Amazing SAS if you can find them. Massive insight.
I think that only high altitude mountain forces could come close when you look at terrain and environment. However, deep cover operations in enemy territory would also require phenomenal skill and discipline, not to mention some massive balls.

That is very true one of the important things that a lot of other military personnel learnt was that the Australian bush is not a nice place. It has been almost 30 years since I got out, but in some exercises we did in the early eighties around Katherine our allies equipment couldn’t cope with the dust (nothing like talcum powder bull dust), the terrain, the heat, the distances, or the snakes and spiders you will need a bloody big army with an enormous logistical supply chain to get anywhere.
The true meaning of Adrenaline rush, these are the top 1% that keep Aussies safe at night, as an ex digger i felt extremely safe knowing they were out there watching ur back, I would like to thank every single one of them for their dedication nd service, thank you and to those brothers lost Lest we Forget
I’ve always had 100% respect for the Australian military. My father served 32 years in the American military and knew many, many Australians that served just as him- with conviction and honor.
Never forget New Zealand’s critical role in the formation of Special Forces – the Long-Range Desert Group. A cadre of warrior poets, roaming the deserts of North Africa creating chaos and fear.
