Cuando recibi贸 su doctorado en 1913, Schweitzer ya hab铆a publicado varios libros. Uno era sobre el verdadero Jes煤s hist贸rico y otro era una disertaci贸n te贸rica sobre la interpretaci贸n de Johan Sebastian Bach.
Con su t铆tulo de m茅dico en la mano, Schweitzer se mud贸 con su esposa al 脕frica Ecuatorial Francesa. Fund贸 un hospital en Labarene, que es el actual Gab贸n.

Cuando estall贸 la Primera Guerra Mundial, los Schweitzers fueron enviados a un campo de internamiento franc茅s como prisioneros de guerra. Fueron liberados en 1918 y regresaron a su pr谩ctica en Labarene en 1924. Durante los siguientes 30 a帽os, Schweitzer viaj贸 de Europa a 脕frica para dar conferencias sobre cultura y 茅tica a los europeos.
Su filosof铆a personal era sobre la reverencia por la vida y la importancia de la preservaci贸n de la humanidad.
Remarkable man. Albert Schweitzer was an Alsatian polymath. He was a theologian, organist, writer, humanitarian, philosopher, and physician. A Lutheran, Schweitzer challenged both the secular view of Jesus as depicted by the historical-critical method current at this time, as well as the traditional Christian view.
I first learned about Dr. Albert Schweitzer when I watched a documentary at school. Then When I read what he said it changed my understanding of life and gave me hope that humanity isn’t as corrupt and greedy as I originally thought it was. He is a very kind and thoughtful man and I enjoyed learning about his philosophy about life that was revolutionary in his time. I don’t agree about everything he says but I do agree about his thoughts on the Reverence for Life.
Dr Schweitzer’s life is remarkable. It’s encouraging to see that Dr Schweitzer lived for His Ideals which enriched fellow human beings’ lives. What a privilege we all have as an exemplary legend of One Person’s Human Values which I am comfortably relate to!
