La actriz estadounidense Suzanne Somers falleció ayer a los 76 años. Su publicista emitió un comunicado en el que informó que la también empresaria estuvo acompañada de su familia al momento de su muerte; durante más de 23 años luchó contra el cáncer de seno, enfermedad que le regresó hace tres meses.
Nacida en San Bruno, California, el 16 de octubre de 1946, Somers (cuyo verdadero nombre era Suzanne Marie Mahoney) se casó a los 19 años y tuvo a su único hijo, Bruce Jr., en 1965 -su apellido artístico lo adoptó por su primer esposo, Bruce Somers-. Comenzó su carrera como actriz con pequeños papeles en series de televisión y películas, siendo “American Graffitti”, de 1971 (dirigida por George Lucas) el filme que le daría muchos fans.
Suzanne es mundialmente conocida por dos exitosos programas de televisión: “Three’s company” (en el que actuó al lado de Joyce DeWitt y John Ritter) y “Step by step” (con Patrick Duffy), ambos sitcoms que obtuvieron muy buenos resultados en ratings. Posteriormente escribió varios libros de autoayuda y se hizo millonaria gracias a infomerciales de aparatos de ejercicio, especialmente el “Thigh Master”.
Desde hace más de 20 años Suzanne Somers descubrió que padecía cáncer, pero eso no le impidió seguir trabajando. De carácter siempre amable, escribió decenas de libros a favor del bienestar de las mujeres, con temas como el sexo, el amor y la pérdida de peso. Le sobreviven su hijo, tres nietas y su segundo esposo Alan Hamel.

Suzanne Somers is one of my favorite comedians and even her off camera personality is great. Gosh, I’m so saddened by the news of her death as I began following her about two years ago on Facebook and felt her marvelous, sweet spirit once again. I’ve a couple of her health/exercise books and her health advice is significantly helpful. Somers will surely be missed.
I grew up watching this Beautiful, talented, courageous Woman! She brought me lots of laughs and joy. I especially admire her for standing for what she believed regarding her health and taking a more natural approach. She had a huge impact on the world and dispelled the myths about dumb blondes. She was far from dumb! Rest in the Arms of God Suzanne… (Chrissy) you’ll be sorely missed ️
She made so many great contributions to spreading information about holistic health & women’s health issues. I respect her decisions not to do chemotherapy. I saw Suzanne in the 70s during a dress rehearsal of three’s company. I thought she was beautiful, funny, smart and a little shy. She was definitely a multi-dimensional woman & she will be missed.❤
