Después de ganar varias competencias de tiro al blanco, el joven y presumido campeón, desafió a un maestro del Zen famoso por su habilidad como arquero. El joven demostró una habilidad técnica muy buena cuando impactó el centro del blanco en su primer intento. Su segundo tiro era igual de perfecto y dijo al anciano:                                                                                                                      

– ¡Allí lo tiene! ¿Vea si puede igualar eso?

No afectado por los hechos, sin alarma o alteración alguna, el maestro sin sacar su arco de la funda, le hizo un gesto para que lo acompañara a la montaña.                                                                                                                       

Curioso sobre las intenciones del viejo, el campeón lo siguió, hasta que llegaron a un profundo abismo atravesado por un débil e inestable tronco. El viejo maestro caminó tranquilamente hasta el centro del frágil y peligroso puente, escogió un lejano árbol como blanco, sacó su arco, y disparó un tiro limpio y directo.                                                                                                            

– Ahora es su turno,  le dijo mientras regresaba distinguidamente hasta suelo seguro. El joven miró con terror el abismo sin fondo y no pudo forzarse a caminar sobre el tronco, ni menos disparar al blanco.                                                       

– Usted tiene mucha habilidad con su arco, dijo el maestro, notando el aprieto de su desafiante, pero tiene poca habilidad con su mente, que le deja aflojar el tiro y hace a sus flechas siervas de sus temores.

Este cuento nos invita a reflexionar sobre la importancia de no perder el control de nuestras emociones en ésos momentos difíciles, la confianza en uno mismo, la superación persona y, sobretodo, la humildad.
