El presidente estadounidense, Donald Trump, no excluyó este miércoles el uso de la fuerza militar contra Irán, si las próximas negociaciones sobre el programa nuclear de la República Islámica no tienen éxito.

Durante un encuentro con periodistas en el Despacho Oval, el mandatario fue preguntado sobre la posibilidad de que EE.UU. lance una acción militar si Teherán no acepta un acuerdo.

“Con Irán, sí, si se requiere una solución de carácter militar, vamos a tenerla militar. Israel estará obviamente muy involucrado en eso, será el líder de eso. Pero nadie nos lidera a nosotros. Hacemos lo que queremos hacer”, respondió.

En particular, se le pidió que aclarara en qué caso se darían por finalizadas las negociaciones para dejar paso a una operación militar.

“No puedo ser concreto, de verdad. Pero cuando empiezas las conversaciones, sabes si van bien o no. Y diría que el final sería cuando pienso que no van bien. Así que es sólo una sensación”, comentó Trump.

El ministro de Exteriores de Irán, Abbas Araghchi, confirmó el pasado lunes que representantes del país persa y de EE.UU. celebrarán el sábado una reunión “indirecta” en Omán para tratar de llegar a un consenso sobre el programa nuclear de Irán.

Por su parte, Trump anunció la misma jornada que Washington mantiene negociaciones directas con Teherán, en el marco de los esfuerzos para evitar un conflicto bélico.
