El actor estadounidense Richard Chamberlain ha fallecido a la edad de 90 años a causa de las complicaciones de un derrame cerebral. El artista murió cerca de la medianoche del sábado en su casa, a las afueras de Honolulu, Hawái.

Entre 1961 y 1965, el actor alcanzó la fama al protagonizar la exitosa serie ‘Dr. Kildare’. A partir de los años 70 fue la estrella de producciones televisivas como ‘Hamlet’ y ‘El pájaro espino’. La miniserie ‘Shogun’ de 1980 también le reportó mucho éxito.

La imagen de ídolo estadounidense de matiné de Chamberlain frenó su carrera actoral en ocasiones, hasta que demostró su valía en el escenario con una aclamada producción de “Hamlet” y otras interpretaciones shakespearianas. Sin embargo, no fue suficiente para impulsarlo a una importante carrera cinematográfica. Protagonizó varias películas notables, como “Petulia”, “Los tres mosqueteros”, “Los amantes de la música” y “La última ola” de Peter Weir. Pero su fuerte siguió siendo la pantalla chica, donde interpretó a personajes de todos los tamaños, desde el inglés Eduardo VIII y el novelista F. Scott Fitzgerald hasta el héroe de la Segunda Guerra Mundial Raoul Wallenberg.

    I was having lunch at peter’s Inn, and he and his partner walked in. He was very kind to all of us who recognized him.

    People don’t realize this but he did lots of other acting work on stage and screen including one of Aussie director Peter Weir’s earliest films, 1977’s The Last Wave. and the villain in “The Towering Inferno”. He was deeply motivated by humanistic values being a spokesperson for LGBTQIA+ rights and for palliative care in his later years.
