El presidente estadounidense, Donald J. Trump, afirmó que no quiere imponer sanciones adicionales a Rusia, argumentando que confía en que su par ruso, Vladímir Putin, “cumplirá su parte del trato” para poner fin al conflicto ucraniano.

“No. Quiero verlo, hacer un trato para que impidamos que mueran soldados rusos y soldados ucranianos y otras personas. Quiero asegurarme de que Putin cumpla el acuerdo y creo que lo hará. No quiero imponer aranceles secundarios a su petróleo. Pero creo que es algo que haría si pensara que él no está haciendo su trabajo. […] Creo que va a cumplir lo que me dijo, creo que va a cumplir su parte del trato”, aseveró Trump al responder a la pregunta de un periodista sobre la posible imposición de aranceles secundarios a los recursos energéticos rusos.

El mandatario aludió de seguidas a los aranceles secundarios que recientemente impuso contra el petróleo venezolano. “Lo hice con Venezuela, aranceles secundarios, y ya saben lo que pasó. Todos los barcos abandonaron el puerto, ¿vieron eso? Fue algo hermoso de ver. Todo el puerto se vació”, manifestó.

De otra parte, Trump contó que Vladímir Zelenski está tratando de renegociar el acuerdo de tierras raras, insistiendo en la adhesión de Ucrania a la OTAN. “Todavía no he hablado con ellos, pero escuché que ahora dicen: ‘Solo haré ese trato si entramos en la OTAN o algo similar’. Bueno, eso nunca se discutió”, aseguró. En ese orden, dijo que la idea de adhesión de Ucrania a la Alianza Atlántica fue probablemente la razón por la que empezó el conflicto entre Moscú y Kiev.
