El reconocido actor y productor de cine estadounidense Michael Douglas reveló durante una entrevista en el Festival de Cine de Karlovy Vary por qué se alejó a propósito de su carrera como actor y por qué no tiene intención de volver.
Douglas, de 80 años, afirmó que “no ha trabajado desde 2022 a propósito” porque se dio cuenta de que “tenía que parar”, haciendo referencia a su lucha contra el cáncer de garganta y cómo esto influenció en su decisión. Comentó que luego de casi 60 años trabajando muy duro, no estaba dispuesto a ser “una de esas personas que se desploman en el set”.
“El cáncer en etapa 4 no es para nada una fiesta, pero no hay muchas opciones, ¿verdad?”, aseveró Douglas. “Seguí el programa, que incluía quimioterapia y radioterapia, y tuve suerte. La cirugía me habría impedido hablar y me habrían extirpado parte de la mandíbula”, cosa que habría sido una limitación en su trabajo como actor.
El ganador del Oscar aseguró que, a pesar de no tener intenciones de volver, no se ha retirado del todo. “No tengo intención de volver. Digo que no me he retirado porque si surgiera algo especial, volvería, pero si no, no”.
El último trabajo cinematográfico grande de Douglas fue como el doctor Hank Pym en la película de Marvel de 2023 ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’. Actualmente se encuentra trabajando en una película independiente de la cual, según él, está “tratando de sacar un buen guión”. Sin embargo, su objetivo es pasar más tiempo con su esposa, Catherine Zeta-Jones, ya que detalló que está “feliz de interpretar a la esposa” en su relación, “con el espíritu de mantener un buen matrimonio”.
