El presidente de EE.UU., Donald Trump, declaró que los países BRICS se enfrentarán a aranceles de 100 % si no apoyan al dólar y buscan imponer una nueva moneda.
“No hay ninguna posibilidad de que los BRICS sustituyan al dólar estadounidense en el comercio internacional, ni en ninguna otra parte. Y cualquier país que lo intente debería decir ¡hola a los aranceles y adiós a Estados Unidos!”, sostuvo el mandatario en sus redes sociales.
“Vamos a exigir a estos países, aparentemente hostiles, que se comprometan a no crear una nueva moneda de los BRICS ni apoyar ninguna otra moneda que sustituya al poderoso dólar estadounidense, o se enfrentarán a aranceles de 100 % y tendrán que decir adiós a la posibilidad de vender [mercancías] a la maravillosa economía estadounidense”, agregó.
El mandatario afirmó que “la idea de que los países BRICS estén tratando de alejarse del dólar, mientras EE.UU. se queda mirando, se acabó”. “¡Que se busquen otra nación, imbécil!”, escribió.
El BRICS es una agrupación interestatal fundada por Brasil, Rusia, India y China, y luego ampliada, que coopera en los ámbitos de la economía y las finanzas, la política y la seguridad, así como en la cultura y los lazos humanitarios.
La idea de introducir una moneda conjunta fue debatida por los países miembros de los BRICS ya en agosto de 2023, durante la cumbre de la organización en Johannesburgo, Sudáfrica.
Dada la actualidad del tema, no es la primera vez que Trump hace declaraciones de este tipo.
